According to the latest research report the Development Research Center of the State Council issued on Juanuary 24th, China’s optical communication industry (OCI) is expected to take breakthrough in some sub-industries, and predictably, gather itself the leadership in the global market.

Same day, a seminar named “Independent innovation of China's OCI strategy & the research subject achievements of ZhongGuang model case” was held in the news conference hall of the National Council information office.

Mi Jianguo, the Development-Research-Center Chairman, provide the information that a research subject group had teamed up by experts from his department and others such as National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology etc. since July 2009. For the sake of taking an in-depth and prescient look in the development prospects of China’s optical communication industry, the group members made investigation and survey in model corporations as ZhongGuang Technology Co., Ltd on the spot. So far the group has finished all subjects and completes the report which came out on the seminar.

As one of the fastest growing industries in China, optical communication industry keeps an upper increment speed of 30-40% growth rate in lately years. Now China has formed a relatively complete system of optical fiber communications industry, covering the optical fiber, optical transmission equipment, light sources and detectors, optoelectronic devices and other fields, the domestic market of optical communications products required more than 80% achieved local production.

Yang Jianlong, undersecretary of the Development Research Center, Industrial Ministry, one of the seminar spokesmen, pointed out that, at the present, the majority of Chinese companies within OCI have not yet mastered the core technologies of optical fiber perform fabrication. However, China would turn to the world’s optical fiber manufacturing power as the R & D of perform fabrication strengthened.

In February, 2009, Premier Wen Jiabao chaired a State Council executive meeting to consider the Revitalization plan of electronic information industry then passed in principle. Another State Council executive meeting was held on January 13th, early the year, on which a proposal for speeding up the integration of telecommunications networks, cable TV networks and the internet (Known as “the Triple-play”) was determined.

Refer to the report, China’s OCI, which plays an indispensable role in achieving Triple-Play, is sure to usher in unprecedented opportunities with bright and vast development prospects.

The report also pointed out that the Triple-Play will greatly stimulate the related manufacturing operations, especially in optical communications industry and the electronic information industry. Statistical data shows that in 2008, annual growth rate of China’s OCI market reached more than 18%, with a holistic size up to 100 million yuan. As the report predicts, by 2012, China’s OCI market size would enlarge to more than 40 billion yuan.

Yang Jianlong Said, currently, domestic fiber-potic communications equipment and systems can not only meet the national network construction, but also serve widely in international communication networks; China’s OCI has been named in the list of high-tech fields that keeping smallest gap in application to top international level.

Particularly, the report indicated that “in the field of optical devices, due to the Weak basis, China’s scientific R&D capability has been bottled a considerable difference comparing to international advanced level. But in some fields, China’senterprises is likely to achieve a leap in technology through independent innovation, thus occupy the global market by manufacturing costs advantage.”

According to the forecast of the subject group experts, Suzhou ZhongGuang Technology Development Co., Ltd would be the most likely enterprises who isexpected to lead the global optical device market. For this company has successfully developed the  device and “double way positioned dry powder and dry pressing method for forming zirconia ceramic ferrule chip, which filled both the domestic and international gap.
